Game: Cards Against the Planet

A scary card game about the causes and consequences of climate change

As part of the scientific culture project “Extensão” of LMI Tapioca (IRD, UFPE, UFRPE), a board game was developed: “Cards Against the Planet”, a card game designed to broaden the debate on the causes and consequences of human action on the climate, placing the ocean—the great climate regulator and provider of half the air we breathe—at the center. This card game also aligns directly with the goal of developing scientific knowledge among the general public about these waters, which cover 3/4 of our planet, and corresponds to the agenda of the Ocean Decade launched in 2021 in Brazil.

Multiplayer, strategic, and collaborative, the game features cards with various problems the planet faces due to human impacts. The game has been widely promoted and was even presented at the Re:publica Festival in Berlin, Germany.

Here, the game serves the purpose of spreading scientific knowledge and teaching concepts in a playful and interactive way.
